The Drug Safety and Awareness Subcommittee (DSAS) emerged as a group from an initiative called the Fortitude Valley Police Consultative Committee in late 1999.
DSAS consisted of service providers and community stakeholders from the government and non-government sectors and the business community. Representatives from Police, Ambulance, Brisbane City council, Queensland Health, The Fortitude Valley Chamber of Commerce and service providers from Fortitude Valley. Together as a community group they met to explore strategies that would respond to community concern about the impacts of drug use and community safety in Fortitude valley area.
